Sqeaky center shaft support

I've got a squeak that is driving me nuts on the center driveshaft support on my 77 supercab. Anything I can do? Or just replace it. No zirk fitting. Is this an urgent thing?

Sounds like you have a bad carrier bearing. My standard cab '79 does not have a carrier, but I've had other trucks with them and have had to replace this. Easy fix. Might as well replace the u-joints while you're at it since you'll have to drop the shaft.

Thanks. That's kind of what I figured. And I figured I would do the joints while I had it apart. Is this urgent though. It just started doing this and I've been driving it pretty easy. Nothin else to drive right now. My 79 is full of yard debris at the moment.

Well, if the Ford set up is like the others I've replaced (Nissan and a buddy's chebby) then you probably have some time. It's going to annoy you and get louder as it wears, and you won't have the support you should have on the shaft--but then, you're going to replace the u-joints anyway. But, don't let it go to long-my friend ended up "welding" his to the drive shaft because he let it go too long with the bearing shot. Even a jaw-puller couldn't help. We ended up cutting it off.
