Is boxing a frame needed?

Is it necessary for me to box my frame? I am looking at the Ford M-6007-F460 with a C6 built for the motor for my 56 F100. Rating is 550HP with 545T. Suspension is basicly stock front and rear.

Appreciate the help.

There are several reasons for boxing a frame. One is horsepower! The original frames were not designed to take the punishment of torque. Boxing the frame, makes the frame more rigid and reduces the chances of the frame twisting and stressing from horsepower and torque, especially on acceleration. If your planning on keeping your foot off the pedal, you might get away with not boxing the frame. The additional weight from that size engine doesn't help matters either. The other reasons for boxing is the fact that these old frames tend to get stress cracks weakening the frames. Remember, that frame is over 50 years old. I'd box the frame. If your considering keeping the stock suspension, you may want to update or make some changes. Using heavier spring in the front due to the big engine. The back leaf springs aren't that strong, and with 545 torque, you sure to do some damage to the rear springs/ hangers. I'd also make sure a 9 inch Ford rearend is in there, because with that amount of torque, you'll be ripping up some rearends as well.
