Ok so I just replaced my power steering pump for a whine noise. Long story short and a stupid thing on my part LOL water got in my Power steering fluid I flushed and flushed the system to get it clean. It was lower then I thought ran it for about 40 miles and it was whinning pretty loud when i got to where I was going and the fluid was a pink color, from water still being in the system. I continued to flush it untill I got it clean. But the pump still seemed to be making noise especially with brakes pushed and the hydro booster doing its thing. Found metal shavings in the fluid and figured that between the water and the fluid being low it took its toil on the P/S pump and I needed to replace it. Well I replaced it today with a Reman unit from Napa and it still seems to be making a whinning noise not as bad but it still dose. Now it could have from when I got it but I just never paid attention to it or I could have problems still. I bled all the air out of the system Im sure by now so I dont know if its normal or not anyone else have any input on this subject?
Ford power steering have always been noisey, It is pretty much norm for them does it yank when you turn all the way left or right when holding and brakes applied?? If does ford makes an inline filter you put in to clean then you take out after cleaning is done
Yeah, that seems like a Ford trademark. I'm pretty lucky, my 250 doesn't whine but my 150s PS pump still does. As a matter of fact, I rebuilt the pump and put new gaskets in and the darn thing still whinned after I got it back together!
Ya I just dont remeber it really whinning that loud and it is quieter then it was before with the new pump my question is dose anyone elses whine not loudly but dose the sound of the engine at idle all you hear or can you hear some kinda whine noise when the brakes are applied and the engine is at idle
