Fuel pump bench test
Pulled the pump out of the front tank of my '89 F250. Hooked it straight to 12v and it whirred a little unsteadily. Is that normal? Also hooked my test light to the wiring harness going to the pump but could not get a light on any of the 4 terminals with the key on the front tank selected. Shouldn't at least one of these show hot?

The pumps don't get constant power unless the motor is running, and then only the tank that is in use will. You can get power to the pump by placing a jumper on the EEC test connector, however I'm not sure if the pin needs to be grounded or powered with 12v.
