Ford C-4 Question

I have a guy locally selling a ford transmission that I am just wanting advice on it it would work or not.

My truck is a 66 ford with a 351 windsor in it and currently has a 4 in the floor style transmission. I know I would need to swap parts out to make the auto fit and work as well.

The transmission for sale the guy says it came out of a 79 fairmont and it is a Ford C4 Automatic Transmisson D9-BP-EA.

I have searched the number there but have been unsuccessful in finding any real information on it.

Thanks!

From what Bill says I would pass. You will have to change the bellhousing on the C4 to get it to bolt to your engine then a crossmember and then you have a 6cyl tranny behind a 351W

It's a C4, but you're missing some numbers/letters.

C6DP-A = 1966 Falcon 170 ~ Ford trans ID tag code = PCS-V

C6DP-B = 1966 Fairlane 200 PCS-W / 1966 Falcon 200 = PCS-W

C6DP-C = 1966 Falcon 289 = PCW-AN

C6DP-D = 1966 Fairlane 289 = PCW-AY

C6DP-E = 1966 Fairlane 289 = PCW-AZ

The only noticeable difference between 6 and 8 cyl C4 trans would MAYBE be the number of clutches in the clutch packs. Stock 351 wouldn't notice the difference.

I would pass on the auto and stay with the manual. If I had all the stuff for my 66 I would put a manual in place of the auto.

Grrrr....

You wanna know why I'm a grumpy old cuss? Here's a good reason why.

Why didn't you list that ID number along with posting a pic of it?

Scheiss on a stick, Bill Wilson, that photo is as dark as a tomb, so I can only make out part of the code (PCA A??), but not all of it.

You have to take into consideration the age of this Bill Wilson's miserable old eyes!

Well, I'm glad it ain't PCA, cuz there ain't any such thing.

PCW-AS = 1966 Mustang 289 except hipo.

289 = 289 cid / 6G1 = Assembled July 1, 1966 / C4 = Self explanatory.

Looks like 'ol John's eyes ain't much better than mine!

Thanks Bill. I knew I could count on getting the correct info here. Definetly will not work for my application.

I typically like standards but in this case I would prefer an auto to gain room back in the cab as well as driveability.

Now I just have to find the best way to fix/replace my hood hinges. Both have pretty much decided to break but the springs are not broken.
