solid front axle on bronco

Anybody out there convert their 88-91 ford bronco into a solid front axle? I'm thinking about doin it so I could easily and cheaply upgrade lift later. I heard that the front axles off of broncos 78-79 will work. Any input would be appreciated.

im thinkin about doin the same swap on my '87 but man is that fabritech expensive, even the lowest one, the one that i want, costs $1800. im not sure what to do about a solid front axle either, but for now it sounds like im about to waist $1800 in the futur for it.

Hey are you planning on installing that fabritech axle swap yourself? I'm not sure if I'm mechanically inclined enough. lol. I was reading the directions and it sounds pretty simple but sometimes words always seem easier than the actual do. I'm interested in it also though cause it would be bad *** to have a solid front axle. later

i was planning on doin it myself, me and my friends installed the lift on my truck and it cant be much harder than that was. but we somewhat know what we're talkin about when it comes to trucks so it shouldnt be that hard for us. but i dont plan on gettin it soon, thats a hell of a lot of money plus you gotta get the axle and i want a d60 front so thats another load of money, so no solid front axle for me anytime soon.

Hey if 35's are the biggest i'm gonna go do you think the TTB suspension with the superlift is strong enough to hold up for moderate wheeling?

yeah the ttb will be fine with those tires and moderate wheelin. the reason im doin the conversion is cause i want to run 38's later and the hope full have at least 350hp under the hood, and i 4wheel a lot so i want all the strength i can get.

If I were to get the 6 inch suspension superlift with that superrunner steering what special tools would I need to install it myself? cause a shop quoted me at $1152 to install and they said that was equal to 18 hours of work.

That is a long way from here. It just shows how this country loves fords.

yeah, the shop i go to quoted me $750, so i did it my self. lets see.... some special tools i used were a pitman arm puller, grinder for rivets you gotta get out, ummmmm.... that is really it for special tools. you will need some big sockets for the radius arms and the u-bolts. we did use 2 jacks and a lot of jack stands, some good ole fashion strength for all the rusted on stuff. it only took us 2 days to do the front. i'de say we started at around 4-5pm and worked till about 2:30am then finished the next day at around 12:30 (we slept till about 10:30). my lift is a little bit harder to do though because i bought the lift with longer radius arms for more strength.

I have a 1994 Bronco that I am putting a Dana 60 on. To keep the costs down I have used the F250 leaf spring hangers and shock mounts. Its a lot of work grinding off rivets but it is much less $$$. The Bronco frame is VERY similar to the F350!

Hey Gabe,I'm trying to put a set of jeep/Dana 44's
on my 83' Ranger, still in the process of thinking
over the front axle. I'll try to keep everyone up
to date as I get Further along with it. If you come
across any unforseeable problems let me know about them,
as it seems we're both trying to accomplish the same
thing. Thanks - Big 4x4

im glad that me and gabe arent the only ones wantin to do this, i find that the more and harder i 4wheel my truck the more time things start goin wrong. so that means closer to solid front axle. i was re-readin the thing on the fabritech conversion, i asked for more info on it to see if i couldnt find a way to fabricate some of my own brackets and stuff. dp, i hope those axles work out fine for you im sure they will. ill keep yall posted on the stuff that i find out.

I have a Dana 60 front that I am going to hang under my 1986 Bronco. I am going to use custom radius arms and Coil springs! Should be fun!

There is a web site at the address http://soderblom.net/bronco/ with pics and description of him swapping a dana 44 under his 89 Bronco with Duff Radius Arms and dual shock setup in front. Pretty thorough and has a cool pic of the end result. I haven't heard anything about the Fabritech kit, not sure if I want to spend $1800 without knowing about the strength and durability of the kit. Plus i have heard about ditching coils for leaf springs, any input about that?
