Picking up a new f-250 CC v-10 4x4 lariat black today. Can't wait. Will tow 6500 lb TT 4-6 times a year, overall mileage under 10k/yr( work too much ). Any advice will be appreciated! Do I show my coworkers this truck or do I hide it in the back corner of the lot? Afraid they may ask to borrow money. . .
Congrats on your new ride and welcome to FTE! I would park it right out in front.
Nothing like a new truck to put a grin on your face. Remember, the 3V V10 takes a while
to break in. You will notice an increase in performance after approximately 7500 miles.
I have an 06 f350 super cab single rear wheel 4X4,V10 121 k miles uses no oil and runs great, also have an 08 F350 crew cab lariat single rear wheel with long bed and 4X4 V10 4,500 miles like you I want to keep it pretty and new for a long time, but must show it off and NO you can't borrow it!
Tell the co-workers you dont have any money left after making the big monthly payment (even if you paid cash for it).
As far as blowing spark plugs, that problem was fixed years ago. That problem first started with the first generation 2-valve 4.6L V8, 5.4L V8 & 6.8L V10. Since then the 2nd generation of those motors (starting about year 1999 or so for the 4.6L and later for the others) has different heads, thus more threads for the spark plugs and the newer heads had higher air flow & compression. A recent Engine Masters magazine talked about this.
Also the first generation (pre 1999) 4.6L V8 had issues with cracking intake manifolds due to them being cheap plastic.
V10 spitting plugs problem ended in november of 02 when the windsor ontario plant switched castings and added more threads for teh spark plug to hold on to. The Romeo michigan plant swapped in november of 03. All 2V V10s were built at the windsor ontario canada plant.
05+ 3V heads have problems with not letting the spark plugs go! The design allows carbon to build between the plug and head and effectively seize the crap out of them! I would imagine they did something about this by now but not sure what the remedy is.
Not true, stevenn1 already got the dates correct... Here's some more specific info about the heads:
December 1996 - 4.6L 4V alignment feature added
February 1997 - 4.6L 2V head alignment feature added
September 2000 - WEP (Windsor Engine Plant) 2V head alignment feature modified (4.6/5.4/6.8)
November 2002 - WEP introduced long thread heads on 2V (all)
May 2003 - REP (Romeo Engine Plant) introduced long-thread heads on 4V 4.6 and 5.4
November 2003 - REP introduced long-thread heads on 2V and modified alignment feature
Thanks for the info guys, I have alot to learn. It is good to be a ford owner again and the truck is turning some heads! The wife noticed a sticker in the windshield that says it was built in Kentucky. Hmm, thats where our favorite beverage is made!
WestxSRT10, I see you have Bassini xhaust parts on some of your trucks. I had a Bassini cat back system on my prev truck and loved it. Mellow, but all business when you put your foot in it. Do you have any plans for your v10?

The Ford v-10? Not much you can do with them, I have a SuperChips Cortex.
