Fuel Injection Cell

Ok, Here's the scoop:
1994 Mazda Navajo, Automatic 2Dr.
Mazda Navajo.... AKA "THE GOAT" We are using this vehicle for a mud truck. This past friday nite, we ripped a hole in the gas tank, not quite sure what we hit! Here is my question.

Can I safely adapt and move the lines from the pump/sender and extend them to the back cargo area?
I would like to take the Pump from the sending unit and install it, in a boat style gas can. Install it with a few FI clamps, and Proper Hose, run the wires to the orig harness.

You would not believe how well this thing does, to be honest it has suprised us for a cheap thrill.

Any help or pointers would be great.

Only a fool would put a live fuel source inside the cab, that would be a thrill on ignition... P

First of all, then GM, and FORD were fools for having gas tanks behind the seats of the pick-ups???????
I know it wasnt the best set up in the world.. But.

The vehicle has no back hatch glass left, and is strickly used off road in a mud pit. Just thought someone else would have modified something similiar over the years.

The Microsoft Helpdesk answer is yes you can do it. The real question is - Should you do it. There is a big safety(and liability) reason that Ford and GM moved the fuel tank out of the cab.
Ruptured tanks and/or rollovers will turn your comfort zone into raging inferno very quickly. Just one man's opinion you understand.

oh i do understand the "lighter" side of the conversation. We are going with a 6 gallon tank, sure thats alot of petrol, and I agree. It will be securly strapped and grounded if necessary. I was going to vent through the cap, and outside, all clamped, And then Just setup my pressure and return as necessary. We want to run this creature of a vehicle again, Its all about the fun. Problem was we ripped a hole in the tank and really took a toll on that, we would have more money invested in the tank than reality sakes worth.

Just wasnt sure if anyone did such a thing in the past or not.

I would replace the tank with a stock one and fabricate a solid skid plate to protect it if it were my vehicle. My $0.035 worth. Dan.
