Well I changed the relays today, Im also gonna throw another part at this problem, I ordered a new switch up on the dash. Its wierd, today I went out to my truck and just turned the key on without starting it, shifted into nuetral and put foot on the brake, it would shift in and out of 4low perfectly, I probly did it 20 times and it worked everytime. But of course when Im in the hills and I really need it wont work. Hopefully these relays and a new switch will do it, otherwise Ill be looking for a transfer case with the floor shift.....

PS. Does anyone think it could be something with the brake pedal and whatever tells the 4low to engage when only the brake is pressed?

I bench tested the relays and they operated fine and had good continuity through the make contacts. I cleaned the spade terminals and when I put them back in 4x4H & L engaged. I know all your fuses and relays are under dash. I looked in an online user's manual for a 2002 and none of the relay designations were listed but there are a bunch on them on the diagram. Must be some secret chit so you have to go to the dealer. You may have a bad relay, unfortunately I can't tell you which relay.
Thanks for the helpful advice Robin.

How hard would it be to convert to all levers?

I just went out to my truck and tried going into 4L, in neutral, foot off brake. 4L would not engage. Pressed brake and 4L engaged. I never realized you must press on brake to engage 4L. I guess I just automatically pressed the brake whenever I was engaging 4L. Did not have to press brake to engage 4H.

Foot on Brake
Truck in Park
Turn **** to 4x4 lo from 4x4 hi
Shift truck to Neutral (keeping foot on brake).

Goes right in or out anytime I do that."

I added the BOLD

Well heres an update --

I figured out the problem and of course it was overlooked and very simple, and something I should have thought of before changing every part on my system.

So my shift lever, or linkage sorta has alot of play in it, sorta sloppy. Well today I was goofing around with my 4 low again and it wasnt going in like usuall, so while my foot was on the brake and the **** turned to 4low and in nuetral I decided to push down on the shift lever a bit almost to where it was in drive and there it went!! Tired it a few more times and it worked perfectly! Works perfect everytime now as long as I push the lever down towards drive.... Im guessing this is probly the problem with alot of other trucks out there... So if you guys ever have problems this could be it..

Anyone know if theres any way to tighten up my shifter ( linkage ) or whatever it is?

Automatic of course? Then it's under the steering column, by the fuses, to the left. There is a barrel nut and a cable that you can tighten. Make sure it centers on neutral when you do it, as well as the other gears. Go to far, and you could end up with a no start situation since the truck thinks it's in gear.
