For the last month or so, my F-250 v10 4x4 with 8" lift has been making this terrible thumping noise when I drive over any kind of bump or make a hard turn. The noise is coming from right under my feet .It has been getting continually worse, however, I was able to trace part of the sound to the steering box, which does thump and groan when I turn the wheels. However, I do not see how this can be the only problem since my truck thumps when I hit a bump. It feels much more severe than just A steering box. Anyway, I'll try replacing the box first, then see what happens. I know it is not the leaf springs or cv joints. Possibly a bad joint somewhere else? Has anyone had a similar experience?
so a new box fixed it?
i was going to suggest the body mount. ive seen several truck where the mount just below the drivers feet gets loose. and lets the cab bounce slightly.
also a bad shock. sometimes they'll come apart internally, and make all sorts of noises...
I guess I was wrong. I brought the truck into the shop and it turns out it was a stripped bolt which holds the traction bar, so the bar was not being held in place. That was a huge relief. I guess the sound was only traveling into the steering box.
