I have a 01 f150 4.2 v6 with 150,000 miles on it the motor hasnt been serviced except for plugs at 20,000 cause they were fouled on the drivers side, and regular tune ups ever since , well at 146,000 i change my oil, plugs and wires , fuel filter , egr (cause it threw that code up) its ran alright untill i hit 150,000 except for a miss like symptom when driving down the road like its running out of gas or just missing . i ran it threw some water and it really started missing like only running on 3 cylinders then it cleared out and ran fine. well i went to work and its was cool this week where i am at , got off work fired it up ran fine got going down the road and felt like the i threw a u joint but the motor was surging so i stoped turned it off check it fired it up started to take off and it died , fired it up again and drove it home and it was fine. got up the next morning and fired it up and was missing and shaking like it was a big block all cammed up. gave it some gas is leveled out until u let off but once it ran abit it was fine , i changed the crank position sensor and no change . could it be the cam sensor or a loose timing chain or what could it be i need help........ sorry for so long of a story but i thought it might help
well it does it when it sets today i was messing with it and it ran bad i mean barley run . i droped it in drive and it dies , fire it right back up and it ran ok , i pulled he bed off to hammer out the front of the bed where a strap that i had holding another motor broke and it slammed into the bed , but i fired it up to move it and it would hardly run , a friend said it could be the O2 sensor but i dont know i am going to take it and have it put on computer .... why would a coil crack , wouldnt that affect it the whole time and rather then the way its been acting , after it warms up it runs fine
Yes, could be a coil pack. Could be bad plug wires, cam position sensor, crank sensor, and a bunch of other stuff.
Is your coolant level OK?
Not losing any coolant?
Does the CEL light ever come on? (any OBD II codes?)
You said it "ran alright except for a miss".
Did this miss start right after you did the work at 146,000 miles?
