Ranger Bed/Tailgate guards

Hello all, i am new here and have a question for you truck guys.

I recently paid off my 2004 Ford Ranger and i am now looking to put on some light mods.

i want to start with those things that you line the top or your bed and tailgate with to protect them from scratches and dings. i think they are called tailgate guards but i could have the wrong term.

but i was wondering how those things attach to the top of the bed? is there and adhesive or do they snap on.

this is only a concern for me because i have leather tonneau cover (pain in the butt to get on lol) that i put on in the winter and will not fit over the bed protecters.(i dont think) because its one of those metal brace snap on one.

do the bed protectors come off or are they on for good??

thanks

I had some on an old F-250 that were held in place by tie down anchors that went into each hole in the top of the bed. I dont know if they come like that anymore, thats been several years ago. They were fairly easy to remove, but scratched the top of the bed, so if you do happen to use this type, and like the paint job, be sure to put some kind of protective layer down to avoid scratches. On the tail gate piece, I had to drill some holes on the inside of the tailgate, and it attached with screws

go to a pepboys or some place like that and look at what they have. The edgings normally are screwed into place with sheetmetal screws on the inside. some are the extruded aluminum type others may be chrome/stainless or there might even be some plastic types out there. look at a jc whitney catalog for some ideas or even at summit, or some of the advertisers here.

I bought bought a set for my previous ranger, a 99' from PepBoys, they were black plastic, they attached with adhesive tape and sheet metal screws on the ends. I don't remember what I paid for them.

mine has wade bed caps installed by the previous owner. they look decent and are quite durable. they do not interfere with the tonneau cover at all...

Mine are plastic that attached with adhesive strips and no problem with the tonneau cover.

I actually have a set of the Bushwacker Diamondback Tailgate caps (P/N 29008) that I'd be willing to part with for a very minimal fee. They're in the original box with the instructions n'all.

I had 'um on my Ranger for about a week ... bought 'um to cover a blemish on one of the bedrails but ended up just having a PDR guy take care of the blemish and never put the caps back on after the fact.

They attached with 3M Adhesive strips & looked pretty good when installed.

Here's the Link .... >> Bushwacker <<
