Looking for some answers why my 1996 E4OD tranny will not shift by itself (only when I move the leve to 2 manually will it shift), the ABS light is lit up on the dash and the speedometer does not work. I have checked all the obvious things ie. all fuses, relays, etc that deal with the tranny, speedometer and ABS systems. All is fine. When i parked the truck last, everything was fine, but truck sat for about a week and the above symptoms show up immediately after start-up. I've even disconnected the batttery momentarily to see if that cleared up anything - no dice. Any suggestions?
Start with correcting this, computer doesn't know how fast the truck is moving or if its moving with no speedo. So it doesn't know when to shift or if it should shift.
Check for trouble codes and go from there even if the CEL is not on.
well guys got this one figured out.......an animal of some sort (squirrel, mouse, rabbit) chewed through the green wire that goes to the sensor on top of the rear axle differential (VSS and / or ABS sensor)!!! Once i spliced the wires back together, it's good to go now! Thanks for your suggestions though.
That is exactly the type of thing I was suggesting you look for. Find whatever is keeping your speedo from working whatever that may be. That is what was preventing the tranny from shifting as it should.
It is/was not two separate issues, your fixing one, corrected the other.
