And again.....show me some evidence of FACTUAL reasons for removing cats....anyone who says they gain 30 hp from gutting them is full of (insert your favorite word).

as much as I hate to admit, my buddie with his 2002 Trans Am had dyno proven gains of 15-20 rwhp with his cats removed...and a full 3" exhaust. But then again, that was a 500+ HP turbo'd car that ran 10's and low 11's on the track with street tires.
but yeah, no gains, and most likely a TQ loss when you pull your cats on the F-150
but it sounds better without them... i pulled the rear two as well.. can't believe cops would actually enforce laws like that... not really an issue in canada that i know of... i'm sure it's illegal, but i've pulled cats on every V8 i've ever owned. definitely not the most environmentally friendly thing i could do, but anyone driving a truck that gets 15-18 mpg probably shouldn't be preaching about being environmentally friendly in my opinion
If you want to be "legal" then don't install anything after market! An after market intake is illegal. By the letter of the law anything not factory is illega! Or OEM I should say. CB antenna is illegal. It's just what you choose to do.
There are compleete exhaust systems from Dynatech for the '04-05's (maybe later). They have them for 2 and 4WD's if you have the bucks. They have them with or without the cats. Offroad w/o cats.
Did you remove them yourself or did a shop do it? They can get in trouble as well as you, but it is your truck so feel free to do what you want. The fines are outrageous, but I've never personally met anyone who got in trouble for it. States that don't have emissions are probably more lax on checking this stuff. Here in NJ they will check under the vehicle for cats when you go to inspection. I don't see the point of removing the cats just to make your truck louder. I've done some nice exhaust systems with the stock cats on trucks and they sound perfectly fine with the cats. I get a lot of people asking me to remove the cats on their vehicles. It is not worth the risk IMO.

Wrong. Most aftermarket stuff is approved or marked for "off road use only".
We are not talking about "off road". I don't know about your state but it is all illegal here in PA. Not that you will ever get a ticket for it. I had a cop stop me in a 79 CJ7 with duel exhaust and glass packs and no cats. He just wanted to make sure it had mufflers on it. By state inspection laws anything not OEM is not legal. No one will ever bother you for most things, but it is illegal.

Removing cats is illegal unless you meet the guidelines. You said all intakes, exhausts, etc are illegal and that simply isn't true. Most stuff sold is approved and is legal for road using in all 50 states. Anything that is not is labeled "off road only".
Now as far as cats go, usually it is illegal to modify them, it's illegal to totally remove them but the chances of getting caught are fairly slim. With a stock engine or even one moderately modded, it's not going to make much difference between stock or gone besides sound.
I've bought vehicles without cats (94 F150) and one in with no effect on performance. My 2000's cats got damaged by coolant and I replaced all 4 with two high flows and the performance vs pre damaged stock cats is the same but with more sound.
I could have just taken them off, but I'll spend $150 and some time welding to emit less emissions.
I did my research and I am wrong. I haven't checked the laws in about 8 years . The way they are worded now if after market parts meet orginal standards for that car it is legal. The wording has been changed over the years. Sorry guys.
