I have been noticing when m excursion sits after running it the windows and radio don't come on right away. Could someone tell me if this is a relay and where it would be found? Thank's
I believe the "delay" relay is bad. If you look in your owners manual you will see it listed and the location in the power panel under the steering column. This is the relay that keeps power to the interior lights, radio, windows, etc. until you open the door after you turn the key off. Sounds like when you turn the key on the relay is not making good contact. It has been my experience that over time the relay contacts get burnt or pitted and do not make good conatct. I would locate a similar relay and there are plenty of them in the power panel and swap relays and see if the problem still exists. Just remember where you put the possible bad relay. Also, you can take the bad relay apart by carefully prying the locking tabs in the sides, remove the cover and check the contacts for damage. I recently replaced my delay relay because my interior lights were staying on all the time. After I solved that problem, I just replaced all the relays.
I have the same problem - after the truck has been off for a while, the radio, interior lights, and gauges do not work. Sometimes the door locks are dead too. Usually everything returns when I start the truck, but not always. I moved the relays around, but it did not help. There is another thread on this issue, and one of the posters said that changing out the relays with new did not fix it for him either. If I pull a 10 amp fuse it resets something and then everything works fine immediately. I think it is fuse #42, but I don't have access to the truck right now. The fuse resets the trip odometer in the dash, so I assume it controls the cluster and possible the "battery saver relay" mentioned in the thread linked above. I'm getting tired of not having interior lights or power door locks until I start the truck. If anyone has solved this problem by doing something other than replacing the relays, I am really interested in the details!
