Oh the fun

Okay I am gearing up to put the 351 in but in the mean time I want to take the old girl for a few last spins while she is still stock. I had a chipped fuel sight bowl that I found a replacement for at Job Lot Auto in NYC the are now the Ford Parts Specialists. It was a great find courtesy of Mid Fifty.

Now the problem with the old girl she cranks just fine but no fire the coil tests okay and I cleaned the rotor (it had some rust.) There is power to the coil and to the dist. But still no fire, fuel in the carb and she sprays when you mash the gas but won't fire at all. I have tried the old starting fluid as well. My last thought is cap, rotor and other internals of the distributior, unless you folks have another idea.

You could have a weak coil. If you have a spare, try switching itn out. If not, a coil is not very expensive

I tested the coil it reads .8 ish ohms from positive to negative and about 12,000 from positive to the center post.

I would defently pull the distributer cap and take a look inside. Good time to check the points.

points could be rusted. Make sure the rotor is spinning when cranking to eliminate broken dist. shaft.

Check the wires to the points inside the dizzy, and the grounding wire underneath the points plate. With the ignition on, opening/closing the points manually should result in sparks between the points. A bad condenser is a possibility too.

if rotor was rusty, then rest of dist. is in need of rebuild. rust, moisture, electrical? bad combo!

On mine, the wire that goes into the dist, pos lead, from coil had shorted out to gnd, Replaced wire, fixed problem . Also, check timing if posible, Could be so far out due to dist movement
