heated seats

Why do my seats stay hot after turning it on, and then shut off after 10 min, my butt takes longer than that to heat up

without looking at a schematic, i would guess that they are wired through a timer relay, as a safety feature. same principle as rear window and mirror defrosters. the general timer is for about 10-12 minutes.

it takes a bit for the heat to penetrate the leather and cushioning. and then you have all that radiant heat even though they are turned off.

it's the same thing that happens when you run a space heater with ceramic elements. the ceramic (leather on the seats) retains heat for a while...but it takes a while to get it hot as well

oh yeah, you gotta try those things in the cold cold weather. I only run them a few seconds. afterwards my butt begins to get scalding hot.

they don't make 'em. The cloth isn't durable enough to handle the heat...can only be had in leather.

it's funny, but out here in Hawaii my seats don't get scalding hot. only if the sun is shining right onto the seats. I keep the moonroof closed.

didn't really have an issue in Texas either. I distinctly remember those 80's cars with vinyl seats though. f'ing hot

Ford may not make heated seats in anything other than leather, but, Subaru does have heated seats in the Forester with cloth material. They work very well and have held up since new (2006). My '06 Lariat Screw has heated leather and like everyone else is saying, can really burn in a short period of time.

take all the complaints about how crappy the OEM cloth seats are...and then add a heater element. doesn't sound good to me.

man, you are crazy. I only used mine on the coldest days. It isn't right for your butt to be sweating when it's 20F outside
bold as usual

Google SEAT HEATERS, the manufacture that makes the units for OEM sells them cheap, like 125.00 per unit. I am thinking about getting them for my 08 Lariat, my 05 had them and now the signifacant other is bitching about not having them. I live in San Diego...... I intend to look under seat to see if the hookup for heaters is there. Any body know if the hook up is there?
