32" tires from the factory stock on the FX4...which is identical to yours suspension wise...except the shocks.

a 33" tire will fit without any problems as long as it isn't too wide

17" rims right?

I suggest a 285x70x17 tire (33x11.5x17)...a 12.5" wide tire may be too close to your upper control arm without a leveling kit

yes, the 285/70/17 is the metric equivalent of a 33x11.5x17

I suggest you visit the link below and play around with it. It's a very good tool to figure out what size tires are what and their measurements.

Tire Size Calculator

at Sams Club, they have the 285/70/17 Goodyear Wrangler M/TR for $984 + tax. Works out to be $1,025 for me. I'm about to get it, or the new BFGoodrich M/T TA KM2 ($1,045) for my Durango. Makes me wish the F-150 had 17" rims

I have 33/12.50/17 on my truck which is a 04 extend cab fx4 and they never rubbed. Now I got a 3 inch leveling kit and thinking of 35. Alson I heard 12.50 might be to big for stock rims. I bought some after market rims for me. It was 500 more. But 12.50 will work with out rubbing

with OEM 18" rims (in my case) and a 35x12.5x18 Toyo M/T...I had 1/8 to 1/4" clearance between the tire sidewall and the upper control arm.

absolutely no rubbing when going lock to lock. I didn't buy them though because the shop wanted over $2k for 4 tires...boy did they look good though

but yeah, I agree with Still Smoking. a 12.5" tire gets awful close to the UCA...alot of guys are running them on OEM rims with 0 problems. Your choice

I concur with Tylus: All the 285/70-17 tires I've seen are rated for the stock 7.5-inch rim... though it's at the narrow end of the spec. That kinda alleviates some fitment issues too. The ideal is to use the "measuring rim" spec but you'll get normal wear and performance within the range listed by the tire manufacturer.

The LT equivalent of the 285/70-17 is a 33x11.50-17 and it's rated by several manufacturers for a 7.5-9.5-inch rim.

An LT 33x12.50 is commonly rated for an 8.5-11-inch rim, but I have seen some as narrow as 8-inches.

Remember that as you go narrower or wider on section width from the "measured" rim, you change the mounted section width in a 1/2-inch= 1/4-inch amount. If the "11.50" or "285" section width was taken on an 8.5 inch rim and you go with an 8-inch rim (1/2-inch narrower) then the section width is reduced by 1/4-inch (to 11.25-inch or about 278mm). Going narrower than specified tends to pull the edges of the tire up. If taken to excess that will cause the tire to wear in the middle and not deliver all the handling and braking the tire was designed to give.
