remove cigarette lighter

OK, it is probably so simple.... but I'm missing it.
I've got EVERYTHING out of the cab, except the stupid cigarette lighter. Thin bezel on the cab side, so it needs to come out into the cab?..... but the wire attaches to a node on the side of the thing behind the dash...
What am I missing?

As always thanks in advance.

The part you see behind the dash is a shell that the lighter screws into. Stick your thumb in the lighter socket and hold it from turning while you reach behind the dash and screw the shell off.

If that does it... I'll simply say... DUH.
Will it work if I "turn my thumb"? Obviously I haven't tried what you're suggesting, but in looking at it, I didn't think there was room to turn it behind the dash... But could be....
THANKS

Do the cigarette lighters have a fuse somewhere?

No..I do not smoke and never will. I would like to be able to use it to charge my cell phone though.

my thought is no but you could put a fuse in-line if you wanted to...12v should support a cell phone though

Glad you got it. Sometimes they are pretty tight and don't seem like they will unscrew.

I don't want to replace it. I want the truck to look relatively stock. I just wondered if it was fused and if it was safe to use to charge my cell phone on long trips. The 56s are 12V, so that should not be an issue.

I drive the wheels off this thing and am gone a lot of weekends in it. Me cell has a tendency to die on me. OOPS!

My other vehicle has sat for about 2 weeks now. I do drive it occasionally, but it is no fun.

Brian,
As stated above, it would be incredibly easy to put an inline fuse in. One wire, one inline fuse. Should take about 5 minutes.

Charging a cell phone I'm certain would be less of an amp draw than heating a lighter. It is not needed!

Fuse or not...I think I need to find out if it is actually wired up. I never tried it.

Spurredon....you are probably correct. I will give it a try this week (assuming it works).

For that matter...do our trucks (in stock form) actually have any fuses? I have never seen one anywhere on mine.
