This is just wrong
I just read this in the Sept 08 webzine auto inc (autoinc.org -- tech to tech).
There was a no start on a 98 Caddy -- turned out to be the radio! It had a problem in its data line that blocked the anti theft system from the PCM.
"Scotty, engage manual override"
"I kinna do that captain, the computer has blocked the manual override!"
It was funny on Star Trek
