HELP! What ignition system do I have?

My wife's F-150 needs the timing checked, and I should be able to do it all myself. I need to know what type of ignition system it has: 1992 F-150, 302 CID (5 Liter), 2-wheel drive...The Haynes manual uses terms like 'Duraspark l, ll, lll, etc, along with EEC, SPOUT (SPark OUT), and so forth...

What type ignition sits in this beast? Do I have a SPOUT circuit?

I just want to time the truck, and change timing chain and associated gears if need be - but with all of the vehicles and motorcycles I've owned, I've actually NEVER done any timing (somehow, I never had to...)

Thanks in advance for any assistance you good folks can provide!

Your truck has a TFI (thick film integrated) ignition system controlled by an EEC-IV computer. To set the base timing, you have to remove the SPOUT connector, which is located near the driver side hood spring mount on the fender on your 92 truck. Removing the SPOUT disables the computer's ability to advance the timing. Stock setting is 10° BTDC. I assume you have a timing light?

What EPNCSU2006 said plus it is also a "push start system" so that means you have a Gray Ignition Module on the fender near the SPOUT shorting bar (jumper). If you have a Black Ignition Module change it to a Gray Ignition Module.

With the timing light still on it after you set it to 10*BTDC with the SPOUT out put the SPOUT back in with it still running and check to see if the timing mark moves. If it does not move check back with us for more help.

As for the timing gears/chain goes take the distributor cap off with engine at TDC on the timing mark and with a socket on the crank shaft rock the engine back and forth. A new chain will be about zero degrees slop and a very bad chain about four degrees.

Here is a photo of the SPOUT shorting bar.

Here is photo of the marks. It has the old type sheave for the belt pulley system but the marks and the pointer are the same.
