i got a 99 f250 and my Steering Stabilizers went bad so i am buying new ones. I was wondering if they are the same as shocks. I see some with light and medium valving and i dont know the difference in them. Here is what im looking at. Can somebody tell me if this will work. Thanks David
Nope those won't work. They are the shocks. The steering stabilizer is a little different, still shaped like a shock, but doesn't recoil like one. You want to specifically look for a steering stabilizer. Do you have dual, or single? Popular place to get them, at JCwhitney or the shockwarehous. also some codes for savings. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/7...ney-codes.html
Bilstien does make a shock that works well as a stabilizer. I have had one for the last few years, but I don't have the part number handy. I was involved in a thread back then that listed all the specs I could find and the bilstien part number I bought.
I know that procomp makes a dual setup for the pickups, as well as rancho. I went with the rancho one recently because I also went with the rs 9000 shocks. You can look at their application pages and get the part no you will need and then shop around for a supplier, or check their home pages and they usually have dealer lists. http://www.explorerprocomp.com/PDFs/07cat/92-97.pdf (procomp) http://www.gorancho.com/products/doc...tabilizers.pdf (rancho)
I have the ProComp kit and it is really good...bit cheaper than the Rancho one also. I wouldn't use a regular shock as a steering stabilizer do to they are valved differently....stabilizers are 50/50 ratio where as a shock is 60/40 or even 70/30 ratio.
