About five months ago I had my water pump and power steering pump on my early 99 7.3l. replaced. Well on sunday I was driving my truck and was going about 55mph when suddenly the entire truck lurched, but nothing else happened. That evening I pulled it out of the parking lot and both my power steering and brakes were gone. Then two seconds later the truck shot out the power steering pulley. I mean bam it launched it into the ground. So my truck is parked and I need to get a new P/S pump and pulley the entire shaft of the p/s pump is frozen and it's leaking p/s fluid. Is there anything that I should look for in the truck that might have been damaged by the flying pulley. And are there any directions, I want to do it myself this time.
Never had to replace the PS pump... knock on wood... on my truck yet but I assume that you will need to replace the serp belt. Also, look at the idler for the serp belt to make sure it's not wobbly or loose. They do tend to wear out over time. I thought I seen a procedure to replace the PS fluid so I'll snoop around to see if i can find it.

I believe I would go back and find out about the warranty on the parts that they used. 5 months is not a lot of time, and it should not have done that.
I had a power steering pump go out once and the belt got launched. I'm not sure how the pump ended up on the ground seeing that there isn't really anywhere to go if it falls. And its held on by some decent bolts, but regardless of where it failed, I would at least flush the system if failed. ATF not power steering fluid also.
Thanks guys I dropped by the auto part store they looked it up and they are going to give me a full refund when I bring back the broken p/s. The serp belt is brand new I bought it at the same time. Also it's not the p/s pump that fell off but the pulley that is run by the serp belt. My closest guess is that the shft seized up and stoped spinning and my truck (beast that it is) kept spinning the pulley anyway ripped it right off shredded it clean off
