from all I hear the trans will bolt up-you will need to install a pilot bearing in the rear of the crank-and will need to switch the computers-and some wiring-hope this helps-

You will need under-hood wiring for a 5.0, but the 85 wiring is so much different that it won't work very easily. You should find a 5.0 harness from a same or similar year truck that the engine is going into.

flywheels are different, 4.9l is neutral balanced while the 5.0l is a 28oz or 50oz imbalance depending on year.
the '85 should just be a carb or electric carb setup.
theres 3 years listed, what are you trying to do?

Yes, they will. Since the 85 is EFI it makes it a lot easier. Take the computer and the whole wiring harness.

If you're doing a 4x4 conversion at the same time, remember that you need a new tranny to bolt the t-case up to.

It would be a whole lot less work just to buy a 4x4 truck with a working engine.

The wiring harness is still quite different on a 92 as compared to an 85. The computer will be fine, but it will take a lot of work to integrate the 85 harness into the 92 truck.

I didn't realize there were that many differences. Do you know what changed?

I haven't seen an 85 wiring harness, but I'll assume it's pretty similar to my 87, which has basically a stand-alone engine harness from computer to engine that has one plug to interface with the chassis wiring for things like EEC power feeds, oil pressure, water temp, and tach signals, etc. The 92 wiring is more integrated with the entire underhood wiring harness (computer through chassis harness to smaller engine harness), used a main relay box instead of the two relays hanging off of the air filter, plus what is needed to make the PSOM work, just a couple off the top of my head. It's certainly not impossible, but it's not going to be a simple plug and play operation, that's all I was getting at.
