Battery Insulation

Was servicing my batteries today and noticed the blanket insulation was in pieces. My question is how important is this thing and why is it only on one battery and not the other? Do I need to get a new one or possibly make one from something or just remove it completely and not worry about it?

Original design encompassed the driver's side battery in an integrated air box, hence the lack of blanket. The blanket's used on the exposed battery of the passenger side.

And it's importance... nada

Thanks that's what I wanted to hear! It's going in the trash.

I think it was just to make it look a little cleaner from the factory. Mine is falling apart too.

Squirrel ate part of ours right after we got the truck. Found him and his family and the tree they lived in... DEAD. Must be another one of those fatal products from China. We now have a squirrel skin cover. Draws the attention of fuel inspectors away from dyed fuel filter. Have a GREAT day.

I installed an aftermarket CAI kit not long ago so I serviced both batteries at the same time. The blanket on the passenger side battery was completely falling apart so I just threw it in the trash.

I am wondering though if the blanket serves the purpose of shielding that battery from any heat source in that area of the engine compartment. Heat is pretty much the number one enemy that batteries have insofar as longevity is concerned.

I have looked on Google and Ebay for a replacement and haven't found the exact item yet but thermal blankets for batteries are fairly pricey; somewhere around $50.

It looks a lot cleaner without the blanket, that's for sure.
