I just picked up an F250 Ext.Cab 4x4 the other day. It rides like crap and I know it needs a set of shocks (for sure).
Will looking under the front end, I noticed the (2) front leaf springs are arched like upside down "U's". The bow in the springs seems excessive to me.
How are these springs "supposed" to look when they are new or in good shape ??
That is normal, these trucks have whats called "negative arch" springs up front.
They probably do sag from years of the truck sitting on them, sagging springs are common in these trucks. Should have some 1.5 2inches between the axle and rubber bump stop, you may notice it sits right on the bumpers or just off em even with no load on the truck.
They can be replaced or re arched to correct it if its bad enough.
Ford did that to make the ride quality a little better while still giving the weight on the front support.Ever ridden in a leaf sprung Chevy? You needa take exlax after that. The sag is completely normal no worries.
