I guess Im thinking for the welding aspect that the frame was thicker. (I see welding getting done on thick pipe out in the patch all the time and its stick heaven out there!)

removing leaves is super quick and easy especially if your changing diffs and if you dont like them its easy to put back too, no cutting or welding etc. I suggest putting a gasket between the leaves if you do take it apart, itll stop any future squeeks.
old bike inner tubes work ok. i used something called polyride and i like it because it not only covers the flat part of the leaf it also runs up the side of the leaf and helps prevent dirt and junk from getting in there (as long as you put them un right, I had to change one leaf because i put it in upside down)
