Yet another head question
Greetings fellow Ford fans.
I've been hanging around here for quite a while learning a lot about these old beasts, and am now finally getting around to working on my truck after having it sit around for years.
What started originally as an intake manifold swap has escalated into a whirlwind of "what the...?" and "should I?" questions.
I took the old 2 barrel manifold off and was cleaning the engine up when curiousity took over and I looked for all the casting numbers. That's when I noticed that the heads are different. One of them is a C8AE B and the other a C6AE L. They look identical, and I looked them up in that Steve Christ book everyone is always talking about, and found they have the same chamber volume, but I'm wondering if there's any differences between them that might offset the left bank from the right? From the intake side they look the same, but I haven't taken the exhaust manifolds off to compare them that way.
Sorry for the obscure question, but I'm sure someone here has the answer.
Thanks,
-Rob

Both of those should have the short port intake...now if your C8 head was a -N head it would be a CJ head..which would have the larger valves.. But both your heads that are on it are post mid-65 heads where the end of the run for the C4AE-G heads were used with a taller port... I have a 390 here that has the reverse of what you have ..one bank is a C0AE head and the other is a C4AE- head... but both a the Tall port intakes...
Hope this sheds some light on what you were asking? Have fun with your build!
