Does motorcraft stamp the date codes on oil filters? For example If an oil filter is stamped 906210727 when was it made? The reason I ask is because a friend of mine bought a used 2007 Expedition from a local dealer, and at the time of delivery the salesperson told him that the oil had been changed and he was good for 5000 miles. Well 800 miles later the oil life on his computer was flashing 5% oil life. I told him they probably forgot to reset the computer no big deal. Well he checked the oil and it was nasty black, not 800 miles worth of driving. so we changed it today and when we pulled out the old oil filter it looked like it had been in for a while, not a month worth of driving.
Come on now, a dealer would lie about something like that? Surely you jest. Dealers are the most honest people on earth. Just ask them. But its not worth agrueing with them about. Change the oil and filter and go on with life.
Well I know the oil wasn't changed, I'm just trying to figure out how long the oil filter has been on the truck for. And my wife loves to argue, she tortured the local appliance store for 9 months until they finally gave in, and came out to repair a damaged hinge on the fridge door, when the service guy finally came out to replace it she told him that we no longer needed the service because they took to long and we hired someone else to fix it. I would never waste my time but she loves to keep people honest.
Whoa! I'll bet you keep on your wife's "good side", no matter what it takes?
However, even if a oil filter is "old" what difference does that make in the grand scheme of things? I have oil filters that can sit for a year or two, maybe more, before I use them -- or sometimes I'll buy a oil filter and change it that day. Same with air filters.
I know what you're getting at, I can usually tell simply by inspecting the baseplate area and gasket area if an oil filter has been on an engine for a long period of time or not.
Lastly, some oil that gets black quickly, simply means it's detergent additives are doing it's job, and that there is not necessarily anything wrong with the oil itself.
...and if your wife disagrees with any of those comments, then I'll agree with your wife! LOL...

PS What's with this diet analysis ad? As if a woman built like that is concerned with losing weight? Shouldn't some big, fat chick be used for their product? LOL Doesn't make sense, but I know why they do things such as this in advertising...
