I want to pick up the cab on my truck enough to clean up the frame, check for excessive rust, and undercoat it. How hard is it? I know there are only a few bolts holding the cab down but nothing is that easy, how much trouble is it? How long will it take to jack it up? Thanks.
Is the cab the only thing left on the frame? If the dog house is still connected it will take more time to do it. What do you have that can lift the cab? Some people have used a cherry picker, some construct a frame out of 4x4 or 4x6 lumber tall enough to be able to raise it up high enough.
However you decide to do it make sure it is safe to work around.
The only things that's not on the frame is the bed, all the rest is still there. I have a set of cross ties for the horses that's made of 18" pylon that'll hold it without a problem.
That sounds like a lot of work for frame cleanup. I'm in the process of cleaning/painting/undercoating my frame too. I use a creeper and found the undercab frame to be accessable enough. I use an 4.5" angle grinder with a flat brush or cup brush depending on the location, the tops of the crossmembers were done with a hand-held wire brush.
just did mine to put it on another frame not hard at all like they said if you've got something to hold it up 4 bolts in cab 2 in front support shifter i did mine at column steering shaft /e brake cable/ misc wiring one plug right below column /brake lines /ac lines if you have them.i had mine off the frame in about hour and a half but i was by myself front clip and all.and if your going to take it off the frame put bushings on it while its off
good luck hope this helps

I agree. I have cleaned up two different trucks now, and only had to lift the rear of the cab a little bit to replace the crossmember. Never saw the need to take it completely off.
Thanks guys, I'm going to replace the rubber in the mounts toobut it sounds like it's a little easier than I thought to leave the cab on. I'll see if I can get it all but I was just going to lift it a little anyway, just to give me the room to get the top of the frame done. Thanks again.
