turbo whine
I have a 99 f350 7.3 turbo diesel I bought oct 8, 1998. I have never had any problems with it until 2 days ago, it has 103k miles on it. I was pulling away from a stop under hard acceleration and the turbo changed pitch, it started to whine. I happened to catch a glimpse out my right side mirror a hugh cloud of black smoke from where I just pulled away from. I thought it was because I hadn't changed the oil in a while and it was pretty crudy. I changed the oil but the turbo still whines all the time except at idle. It is most pronounced around 30-35 mph or when letting off the accelerator and the turbo is seeming to whined down. I don't really know what to think as the truck seems to run fine, it's just that that whine wasn't there before. Also I should add that I saw a guy I know who was behind me at the stop sign. He said man there was a hugh cloud of black smoke behind your truck when you took off the other day. So it was probably bigger than what I saw. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
