Just my luck, I just put my truck for sale and now the front brakes are starting to rub. I figure I'll pick up a set of pads tomorrow and through them on sunday.
My question is this. Years ago whenever I changed disc brakes I would just use a big C clamp to recompress the calipers so the new bads would fit in. I have been told you can't that anymore because of the ABS sensors. Does anyone no anything about this. I guess the other option is to put pressure on it with the C clamp then drain fluid out of the bleeder. Once Im done just top the fluid off. This seems like a very akward solution though.

That's the ticket...I just barely put a little pressure on the piston (I mean barely) with the c-clamp, before I open the bleeder. That way, I know I have positive pressure and no dirt can enter via the bleeder valve. Then crank down on the c-clamp slowly to purge the caliper cylinder...then re-tighten the bleeder valve BEFORE loosening the c-clamp. Install the new pads...While you are in there you might want to purge the whole system of old brake fluid if it has been more than a year with the old fluid.
