Ok well, I posted a thread on here a while back about a strange issue I was having. I was looking into shimming the fpr. I shimmed it and took it for a test drive. Once I got back I decided to take the shim out, due to a lack of a gauge to monitor the pressure. Anyway what happened after that was the issue. Once I removed the shim I noticed a significant increase in power and overall proformance. Way more than I had before the shim. The shim was only in for maybe 20 min. The only thing is that I was never able to figure out what caused it to gain the power.
Well, that was about a month ago. I was on my way home from wally-world today and I went to accelerate and felt the power drop off again. It feels exactly like it did before I messed with the fpr. It's still making good boost, so I dont think thats the issue. But I'm at a loss as to what it could be.
Any Ideas?
Did you notice any debris in the FPR when you took it apart last time? Just from reading your description it sounds like your shim / un-shim process just cleaned out a dirty FPR.
Unless someone smarter comes along with a better suggestion, I'd say take the FPR off again and clean it up, then re-install. I'd also inspect the bottom of the bowl and maybe clean it up a little if it's dirty. Just be careful around the fuel bowl heater.
I didn't notice any debris in it. But that doesn't mean it wasn't there. Is there any specific way I should clean everything out? or just as I see fit?
I would think the process of taking it apart, going through the motions of cleaning things out, then putting it back together, would be a good way to try and duplicate the fix.
Of course for the same amount of time, or possibly less, you could just rig up a fuel pressure gauge to see what the numbers tell you. It could always be the fuel pump starting to go, or something totally unrelated to the fuel. Your oil is full, and isn't too old right? Filters in good condition?
I am getting close to being due for an oil change. About 800 miles to go. All the filters should be good. Only about 6000 miles on the fuel filter. (How often should that be changed btw) I do want to set up a gauge for fuel pressure, but probably can't do anything with it this weekend. Getting a lot of rain from Ike, and only have a carport. As soon as this weather passes, I'm gonna tear into it and get it all cleaned up. Just trying to get some ideas as to what to check when I can get after it.
Where are you from? I'm expecting some wind and rain from Ike tomorrow myself. I change my fuel filter every 15,000 miles, but that's only about every 4 months for me.
I live in Houma, LA, but once again I'm staying in Breaux Bridge, LA. These storms just don't want to let us stay home. We made it through Gustav without too much damage, and I'm not really expecting any from this one. Our prayers are with the people that do take a hard hit from Ike. Down here, we know all too well how it is.
