Smile 94 Ranger engine swap

Hello all, I have a 94 ranger with a 2.3L manual trans and am thinking about swapping engines, my question is what is easier and cheapest way between the 3.0L or 4.0L, I want more power but fuel milage at the same time, while utalizing as many of the original parts, any info would be appreciated. thanks

Unless you can find a complete running wrecked truck with a low mileage 3.0 or 4.0 in it I wouldnt bother trying to do the swap. Very few parts will interchange. As far as the 3.0 vs 4.0 decision goes they are both super reliable if taken care of and commonly last well into the 300,000mi range. The 3.0 is better on fuel but there is not that big of a difference in real world driving between the two. Meanwhile the 4.0 will take off and leave a 3.0 performance wise.
