Help with humming noise when accelerating

When accelerating or when letting off of the accelerator there is a medium tone humming noise appearing to be coming from under the dash around the brake pedal area. Does not do it when running at a constant speed. Anyone have any ideas.

Thanks.

I too have a humming noise on my 07 6.0L, but I believe mine is coming from the turbo. It is a humming/ whinning noise, it has done it since new so I am not too worried about it.

It looks like you have a 1999 truck, If so then you have a 7.3 diesel not a 6.0.

on both motors I would check the drivers exhaust manfold for leaks, And if it is a 6.0 also check the flex joint at the y pipe for leaks.

If you do have a 99 I would reask this question in the 7.3 forum, that may have more ideas.

Humming is not normal, Whistle like a jet engine is normal. being a 07 I would take it back to the dealer and have them check it out.

I have a 2004 6.0 and it is not a turbo noise or a exhaust leak noise. I'm not sure what it is. I does not do it all the time.

Can it humm a tune?

there is a heat sheld around the turbo, I wonder if it could be vibrating.

Or there are a few relays under the dash that could be chattering.

Can you record the sound?

Well, I'm not sure I'm going to give you the right advice, but it won't hurt to check it.
A long while ago, my truck did a humming noise just like yours. It did drive me crazy, and it took me 2 days to find a source. My down-pipe was touching the cab, and without any vibration just made that horrible humming. I have a 4" turboback exh., so if you have factory-one, I'm not sure this could occur.

It does'nt sound like a vibration noise. Wonder if the brake booster could make some sort of noise or something from one of the AC dampers.

Truck is in shop for head gaskets. It could have been coming from Degas bottle. Are you losing coolant? Mine was.

Those bellows (among other things) fail over time --- cab off indicated and is the preferred way in......................you can replace with multi-piece assemblies but get ready to get your contortionist permit in the process.
