Unless you have 1/0ga anywhere else in the vehicle, it's probably over kill (which I happen to like.) Mostly stock charging systems will benefit with 4ga and will be a bit cheaper.

Yes it's overkill but you never know if a sale on Solobaric X18 subs and RF 5,000 watt amps may go on sale at Circuit City
5k watts will need more than a big three upgrade. That amp alone should draw 415amps, but I know what your saying and agree completely. I only have 200watts and plan for another 400, but my big three are 1/0.
hey all, i went to Home page and got 2 custom 175 amp alts for my v10 X. i have all 2ga wire going from the alts to the batteries, then a 2/0 ga going to a distribution block inside the truck. grounds are going from batts to frame, engine to frame, amps to frame-NOT BODY. i pull a constant 230 amps and max out at about 325 amps with all my stereo stuff. all that power is available at idle and i dont even get a single bit of pulse of the headlights or anything. oh, no capactors for my stereo either. i dont like em and never need em since i always have the right power available for my components.
How did you like your National Quick Start alternator? How long did it last? Would you recommend them? I am currently looking for a new alternator asap.
Thanks
This is really helpful... I always love these kind of snobby remarks.
What better way to know if the alternator worked out well? After only "6 years" or 6 days?

Good day
Well after 6 years it's pretty apparent that he doesn't come back every few days and update the thread, so yeah... after 6 years or 6 days does make a bit of difference
Email notification when your thread gets a post. Makes it pretty easy to get updated. Good thing forums are here to inspire conversation and help each other out. Regardless, I got the information I needed. Thanks for your help.

A PM to him might have sent him an email as well. I have my email preferences set to not email me... ever. Then again how would we be able to not help each other if we didn't post in here lol.
I thought the entire post was a good review of info that is already out there, and I too would have enjoyed an update on the alternator after six years. But I didn't think that was going to happen after the passage of that much time. Hence my reply, including a huge dose of my natural skepticism.
Also, I have e-mail alerts turned off because it tends to overwhelm my inbox if I'm not on top of it. So no foul intended, not that I haven't been offensive in the past. And will be again in the future...
