I am having trouble getting a spark 1950 226, after replacing bad fuel pump I cant get a good spark to the distributor. While cranking the engine over with the dist cap off, I saw a very faint spark a couple of times. The wires in the dist were pretty bad, definitely grounding. I am replacing the wires in the dist, and I am pretty sure where the wires go, but I want to make SURE that I have it right before putting it back together.

I know that one wire goes from the points along with the condenser wire to the insulated bolt on the side of the casing. The other connects at the bottom of the casing and I am not sure where it connected to at the other end.

I saw the exploded view that someone else posted a link to, but I would like more clarity.

Points/Condenser wire goes to the "Dist" post on the coil. Or negative post on the coil if not marked "Dist". This is also the post where the tachometer is wired in unless you are using another pickup method. The other post on the coil goes to the key through a ballast resister. The ballast resister is bypassed during start up so you get a good hot spark to start. Usually this is done through another wire from the starter solenoid.

Also if you have a vacuum advance there is usually a bare copper braided wire from the movable plate on which the points are mounted, to the case inside of the distributor. This wire is to make sure the points have a good ground and is braided so there is no drag on the vacuum actuator. DO NOT replace that wire with an insulated wire or your vacuum advance may go all funny on ya.
