I still have the broncos......I bought '08 Focus in May. Gas cost was killing me, the savings driving the focus is making the car pay for itself. 13 vs 35 with driving the '96 over 17k last year, well you do the math.
I haven't owned/drove a car all my life except for a short period of time, the mustang. I did go with a 5 speed so it is fun to drive. 4X4 is in my blood....driving past a gas station keeps me going.
I only crank blue if I am towing, hauling a load or need a tractor. I ride a bicycle to run errands around town and a toyota corolla gets me further out. I hope to eventually get a Yamaha scooter. I know riding on a scooter looks kind of gay but people can laugh and point fingers all they want if I can get over 100mpg.

I have gave great thought to the scooter also. You know where I live and in this rual area it might not be a good idea, esp. on a bicycle.
Just thought I'd chime in...hailing from Tennessee. Over the summer I lived in Salisbury, NC with my parents and had to commute to the south side of Charlotte everyday (118 miles rountrip). After the first week of $40 a day in gas, I swapped vehicles with my girlfriend, a '97 Honda Civic 4 banger and 5 speed (37 mpgs vs 10). Needless to say, from now on I'll move closer to work instead of driving a sardine can. It was quite the sight to see, me at 6'5" 320 in the civic and my girlfriend, 5'2" 115 in my 79 Bronco.
nice looking rigs. did the g/f take over the bronco and not give it back
