My truck is an 86 f150. I am kinda hung up as to where i wanna put my money first. So im asking all yall for some opinions.
My motor: its a 302fi. just put in last spring and only has 46000 on it and runs like a top. The things i wanna do to it are add a different cam, lifters, rockers, timing chain, heads, headers, pullys, and a cold air intake. Heres also a list of maybes. Throttle body and a different intake.
The body: isnt really in that bad of shape either. a few rust spots here and there and i mean a few. some small dings and mostly just a paint job. than its gunna get a set of rims and tires. and a few minor things in the interior.

That is kind of a hard answer without knowing if you have a large or small budget, how much of the work you can do engine or body?
With your current computer you will be wasting your time with cam, lifter, rockers, heads, and cold intake. They don't make a chip or tuner for it, For what you want to do you will need to get everything or as much that you can from a Mustang GT including computer( you can do a search here and find that information)
How much body work can you do? The more you can do the more money you can save.
I found a cam that would work with a stock computer. speakin of computers, the one in the truck is aftermarket but designed for my truck. not sure if its programmable tho. I got it from advanced autoparts
Ooooh...I would be a little hesitant with that because you cant tune really big without messing with the computer. And advanced auto parts scares the crap outa me.
I don't know where you guys are getting your information, but there is plenty you can do with a speed density computer. There are SD-friendly cams. If you put new heads on it you are probably going to need mass air, but for a lot of what you want to do SD is probably fine. Worst case you can get a chip burned. It really depends on how much power you want to make out of it and what your budget is.
Converting to mass air is more complicated than just picking a bunch of parts off a Mustang GT.
A huge upgrade can be had by swapping in a 351. If you do even some of mods to a 351 that you were planning on doing to a 351, you suddenly have HUGE power gains, and it didn't cost you anywhere near as much as upgrading the 302.
Check out the 302/351w forum for lots more knowledgeable info.
theres the link to the cam I am lookin at. And im gettin most of the other stuff like the lifters and that that they recommend on the spec sheet. and after all that im gettin gt40 heads and a cold air intake and i think thats gunna be it. so im thinking i wouldnt have to switch to a MAF system.
I wanna mod the 302 a little just because its what i already have to work with. Im not looking to make it a power monster but merely just a lil improvement oover stock.
