So my 6.4L has just over 21k on it and I purchased the truck back in 04/07. At 15k while changing the oil I noticed it was leaking. Being I am not a mechanic I took it in to the dealer. Long story short the truck was there 3 days and in the beginning they mentioned they though it was the rear main seal, but in the end it was something different. Never the less I just changed the oil again and what do I see while its on the rack, oil leaking again. On Monday I am taking it back, and while its there I will be having them check the DPF cause i believe mine is bad. Sorry for the cell phone pics, but you get the idea. Any idea what kind of leak you might think it is.
I noticed a leak on mine at the same place shortly after an oil change. Turns out they did not tighten the drain plug tightly after the oil change. Go under the truck and see it there is oil around the oil pan drain plug. If there is wipe it completely clean and check it in a day or two. If it is wet again that is your problem.
Quite guessing and have them put dye in the oil. Tell them to do it right.
That's exactly what they did. I brought it to the dealer, they checked things out. A day later they called and asked me to pick the truck up and drive it for a couple more days then return to service. They told me they put dye in the system to help them located exactly where the leak was. I returned the truck roughly a 100 miles later and it spend 4 days in the shop being fixed.
I just dropped the truck off at the dealer so we will see what they say. I also am having them look at the DPF cause its bad. My tailpipes are as black as can be.
On a side note, once I get the truck back I will be doing the exhaust and intake. In the garage I have the new Banks exhaust kit and their intake ready for install. Cant wait to see how it turns out!
Won't putting the intake and exhaust on void your warranty? With it leaking oil I can't imagine you would want to give Ford a reason to hassle you. Just a thought.
The dealership just called and said the leak is more than they expected. From what it looks like the bed plate is leaking. They told me the job is exstensive and if the block is not warped they should be able to replace the seals. If not they are looking to replace the block. Either way they said the job will be take right around a couple weeks. I am kinda bummbed but they again glad they found the problem. Any ideas or thoughts on what you would do? This is the second time the truck has been in for this leak. Last time they didnt know this was were it was leaking and replaced another part.
As for the DPF i guess its border line on wether or not its defective, they are still runing more test. I guess the mechaic did not realize that just over 200 miles ago I cleaned the tips. I will keep you all posted on what they have to say.
