I've had Red Tailed Boa, Corn Snake, Gopher Snakes (many), King Snake, Green Iguana, Tarantula (local So Cal, can't remember the name), various lizards, Rats and Mice (mostly to feed the snakes), Hamsters, Geckos (they ain't as smart as that little bugger on TV).
All of that was as a young adult. Long time ago. Just Dog and Cats these days.
There was an article in this mornings local paper. Someone found a "domesticated Fox" on their front porch and called the authorities. It had a collar and leash attached, and was obviously someones pet.
Illegal to own here in CA. Cute little guy too. They are trying to find a suitable home because he is too domesticated to fend for himself.
I have a sulcata. It's a African Spurred Tortoise. "sulcata tortoises can weigh 70 to 150 pounds, and measure 24 to 30 inches in shell length. They can live over 100 years if cared for properly and can outlive their owners." I've had mine for about 3 years. It would fit in the palm of my hand when it was given to me, about three inches long and light as a feather. Now it's about 3lbs and and eight to 10 inches long. I let it stay outside untill the lows get in the 50's. Keeping it inside in cold weather is easy now, but a few more growth spurts will make this tortoise a tough house guest to live with.
My 16 year old son. I'm really not sure what species he is. All I know is that he is not quite human.
I have one of those too! Sheepdog-like fur with large paws. The species is techgeekus chicmagnetus. They seem to thrive on a steady diet of Arizona Tea, cheeseburgers, beef jerky and frozen burritos, usually captured and eaten on the fly.
weirdest thing i ever saw was my uncle had an armadillo for a little while. He was taking care of it because it was injured. He just left it running around the house like a dog.
I spent the night there and the stupid thing would crawl all over you while you were trying to sleep. sharp claws.

I'd take him in a heartbeat. Fox can be domesticated if raised from pups (very much like my raccoon). Like coon, they don't domesticate like a loyal dog, but more independent like a cat. Give them space, and give them loving human contact, they are damn good pets. Just don't cage them in or expect them to be "loyal"pets like a dog. They are fickle.
Once the "wild" takes them, if it does, they will do what they were meant to do to survive.
I just have 3 birds, but use to have dogs, cats, fish, and mice.
I had a neighbor (now deceased) back in the mid sixties, when I lived just down
a few blocks from where I live now, who had a male Nubian lion cub,
which grew to about 400+ lbs, before the city forced him to give it up.
He had problems keeping it under control and used a cattle prod to control it.
That lion was pretty cool, though traumatized from abuse.
Supposedly he also had a black panther in the house, but I don't recall ever
seeing or hearing it.

I'll stick with birds.
Yea, Ben, If you need a cattle prod to "control" it, it's not a pet. I prefer regular house cats.
I worked with a a young lady some years ago who claimed her Father raised big cats for movies in So.Cal. (2 of the 4 Elsa's from Born Free were theirs, she claimed) She told me his name but I never followed through with checking it out (very pre-internet, 1980-ish).
She claimed she was raised with big cats in the house. There were precautions to take, like making sure the cat had a visible exit, etc. She claimed to have slept with a fullgrown male tiger who "protected" her like she was a weak member of the "pride". I don't know if it was true, but I "believed" every minute of it when we were together. The stories were pretty cool, the n**ky was even better.RAWRRRR.
I had a duck for a pet for awhile when i was a kid. It ended up in our yard injured and without its mother. Kept it for quite awhile too, then one day he managed to get out of the cage and was gone. At the time we had a german shepard crossed with a wolf for a dog, and the dog even helped us look for the duck, it was neat to see the dog and the duck get along!
The ducks name was, you guessed it, Ducky! How original!
