Whats the difference between . . .
On a 2002 F150 SuperCrew Lariat 4x4 - What is the difference between the "Heavy Duty" Rancho shocks on the Fx4 package and the standard shocks?
When I ordered my truck I was told I couldn't have the Fx4 package and the Lariat upgrade package together. So, my dealer found me a truck with the Lariat upgrade and the skid plates/3.55 Limited slip rear axle.
My dealer told me all we missed out on was the "Heavy Duty" shocks which I could get on my own and the decals. Is this true? I saw an Fx4 and it looked taller than my standard 4x4.
Thanks,
Todd

Either your dealer was full of crap or they don't offer the package in your area... my Dad bought one right off a southwest Denver Ford lot with the FX4 and Lariat package... it was a 2002 S'Crew
Sometimes sale people will tell you anything to save themselves any hassle or to make the sale go faster. I was told that a manual shifted xfer case wasn't installed on any '97 and newer truck, only rotary *****... I've got the proof that sales person was wrong sitting in my driveway.
From my experience riding in dad's FX4 S'crew and talking with my dad about the feel, the Rancho shocks just give it a more rigid feeling than any of his previous trucks. I think the suspension does add an inch to the ride height, but I don't think it is really a great difference.
My hd springs make for much more rigid ride than any shock alone could make. They also make the truck sit higher....have the dealer swap in some 7700 package springs if you want a small lift

According to my window sticker the FX4 Off Road Equip Group on the FX4 also adds the 17" Cast Aluminum Wheels and Skid Plates. The FX4 wheels are different than any I have seen on the other 4x4's.
Sitting next to a F150 4x4, my FX4 is slightly higher, but not a significant amount.
Hope this helps. Get what you want and don't settle for less.
