I just purchased a 2006 F150 Lariat. It was supposed to have the audiophile system, but only has single Cd unit. My dealer told me that I could not add the audiophile to it. I see that I have a cut out under my back seat with a wire hiding in it, is that the wire for the sub? If this is something I can do, please advise what I need to do the switch. The system in this truck really sucks.
IF you don't have a premium audio system, it would be more efficient to go aftermarket. My 02 premium system is pretty decent, I can play 100hz cleanly from the stock speakers. It does seem to have a gap, but in all, very good for a factory system.
Because audio is very taste specific, it could have a premium system and you just don't like it. In this case you really should put in the components that you like, be it more bass, or just more speakers.

Does the connector under the rear seat look like this (see photo below)?
If so you are pre-wired for the sub and it will just be a matter of installing the Audiophile Head unit and sub. Both can be gotten off of Ebay cheap. The factory Audiopile system with sub in the F-150 kicks butt for a factory system... at least mine does. It is also my understanding the door speakers are all the same as Ford put their "premium speakers" in all the late model F-150s and certainly in the Lariats.
Thank you very much, I took the stereo head out and found that there is a third plug that is not being used.Must be the out for the sub.I am thinking that I have all I need other than the audiophile head and sub.Thank you for the info.I am looking forward to the new sound!!!!!
