Thank you very much everyone for the very warm welcome!! And the ideas for mods are top-notch! I will start slow, probably like you all recommended, with intake, exhaust and then a chip, and then.....
Pockets you mentioned not to use K&N, why is that, I thought that they were one of the best?
Also what (I'm sure a very controversial question) type of oil is everyone running ? I'm sure this is a bad question but I want the best.
Oh and being kind of new to the diesel scene someone will have to explain all the abbreviations that are used, like the PMS that Liftedgrocerygetter used, very nice truck by the way. Actually all the profiles that I checked and had pics were SMOKIN'!!
And it is the longest week and a half... EVER

thanks again
I will take a stab at answering this, I hope I am not too far off in my answer. K&N will work if you keep it very clean, if not they have been know to let too much dust and crap through which is VERY bad for your turbo and engine. I know a couple of people who use it and dont have any problems but I have heard alot more horror stories then I have positive ones. Alot of us on here use the 6637 for our air filter and get them from FleetFilter.com, you can also get it from Napa. If you look at fleet filter, search for 46637, you can get it there for around $30. The 6637 doesn't need to be cleaned and is good for about 15K miles.
For oil, I just switched to Rotella Syn from wally world this past weekend. I was using dino Rotella before the switch. You will get alot of different answers to the oil question.
PMS is a good thing on here. PMS (powerstoke mod syndrome) will eat alot of your money, I know it has mine. I remember seeing a link for common abbreviations, I will see if I can find it for you.
Sorry if I really didnt answer any of your question, I am sure others will chime in quickly and give you all the info need. If you have any question don't be afraid to ask them, this is a very nice and helpful bunch of guys!!!

Glad to have you here. I run Rotella full synthetic 5w40. As for the K-N, lots of dust gets by into the turbo, dusting the wheel, not good. Chase will show you a pic later what it looks like. Your going to find out in a week or so from being on here what the PMS is, good luck...
Cris covered it pretty good. The problem with the K&N is more with the drop in filters. The fit with our stock boxes are poor and allows dust in around the filter and through the turbo. Even stock filters in the stock box is apt to do it as well. K&N may work well in some engines, but with a diesels you need the best air filter you can get and K&N's not it.
Like Cris, I like the Rotella Syn. I ran Delvac for years. Just make sure it is a good oil rated for use in diesels. Keep your filters clean and oil fresh and your engine will do the rest.
nice truck!! you wil love it. as for oil, yes there will be many different opinions. i will deviate from the above posts a bit as i run chevron delo 400 15W-40 from wally world. it has served me well in 4 diesel trucks. still scared to make the switch to synthetic. not really sure why, fear of the unknown i guess. everyone around my town seems to run the delo 400, so until i ccan hear someones truck running syn i will stay with delo. Congrats on the truck and welcome to FTE, no better bunch of guys and gals anywhere, i am sure of it!
I always wondered what the FTE version of PMS was!! I already know what my wifes version of PMS is!!
There is a link for abbreviations that was given to me when I first joined, but I cant work out how to add the link to posts....technoneanderthal, thats me!
Thanks Cris, experience says a lot so if K&N is no good I'll stay away! I'm judging by the pics I've seen, that you discard the air box when you use the 6637 filter?
Hey Aussie that link didn't come through.
You are right, the 6637 is huge so you will need to remove your stock air box. Some people find it is even helpful to remove part of the battery tray so it fits in there a li'l better, I didn't remove any of mine though. Here is a picture of my 6637 with a cover that I ordered from one of our members.
I'll rep you Cris. Thanks so much, your a big help. As for the abbreviations list I only had time to memorize half today, I'll do the other half tomorrow. YA RIGHT! I think I'll just use it as a reference.

I'll tell you for her, she's a little shy on her post, click on the little scale looking icon and follow the instructions.
