hey guys. i was thinking of putting in some extra gauges i am not sure which ones but some ideas. i was wondering if u guys had the better answer. i was thinking of pyrrometer, air fuel any other sugg. or better than what i thought of ..
I have Boost, Water Temp, Oil Temp and Tranny Temp. I'm planning on EGT and Fuel Pressure and Oil Pressure down the road. There are so many options and everyone has different ideas on what to get after EGT, Boost and Tranny (the 3 most popular). I find Water and Oil Temp important since the stock water gauge is absolutely useless and there isn't a stock oil temp gauge. The stock water temp gauge will hit its usual half way point at 160 degrees....your truck isn't fully warmed up yet and not to mention the oil temp; it's 30 degrees less than the coolant until it warms up then it will stay the same as the water temp unless you are towing then it's warmer. They make all kinds of gauge pods for mounting them all over the place!
EDIT: ...and welcome to FTE!!!
I have boost, EGT and tranny temp gages. One thing I did was to add temp probes and wire them to the tranny temp gage through a selector switch. I can monitor the front and rear differentials, tranny, coolant, and (as soon as I get the wire run) oil temp. The linked thread has a write up...
I believe the general consensus among 6.0 folks is that fuel pressure and EGT are the two most important gauges. Beyond that, tranny temp, water temp, oil temp and boost are all useful. I believe HPOP is useful for 05 and up trucks as well.
Do some digging on this site. Search for gauges. You'll find all the info you'll need to make an informed decision.
msgtcook, I asked this question on another thread and never got an answer. Having never used an OBD II reader, I am curious if you actually get boost, fuel pressure, trans temp, engine temp, etc, on the Dashhawk. I guess I'm trying to get a comparison to the other gauges that other people buy. Please help educate my inexperienced simple mind.

No fuel pressure , I think they are working on that.
But it gives almost everything else. engine coolant, engine oil temp , trans temp, MPG , torque converter lock up & slip, boost, load, battery volts(it already helped me truble shoot a problem, bad battery) and many more. I like it and its easy to install. It will do egt but you have to install a probe. Plus I can use it in my new F450. Hope this helps.
Also on our recent trip I saw some quick "engine coolant temp" spikes (230 degs than right back down to 212deg). The temps on our trip had been steady the entire trip (4500 miles) at that point , so I new some thing was up. The factory gauges never moved, so I pulled over in a safe place, the coolant cap had went bad. Found a Ford dealer and replaced the cap = fixed the problem. Will not tow with out!
