Roof Clearance lights were an option, I special ordered my 99 SD/CC/4x4/PSD/Lariat and got the clearance lights added for a bargain $50!!! I agree they should have come on every SuperDuty/Excursion.
Nice Truck!
I purchased the front and rear marker lamps off Ebay..
The hardest part is drilling the first of the 3 holes in your perfectly good roof to install each lamp.
Total of 30 holes.
I have since replaced the amber lens on the rear hatch with smoked lens and red lamps.
I like the cab lights... I'm a bit ambivalent on the rear ones.
I probably wouldn't put the rear ones on - not that I dislike them, but
I'm not really sure I do like them either, so it wouldn't be worth the
work to find out. I think I'd rather put a couple of small floodlights
in the back so I could flip a switch and see behind and out to the
sides (still behind though) when I am backing through the trees
in our yard (we're running out of parking space for boats, cars,
trucks, and airplanes!).
The chrome is not a perfect match (the Excursion emblem looks a bit
darker, like it has a bronze tint to it). I got some other hybrid emblems
on eBay today and will see if they are better. I'll try to remember to
come back and post a new picture.
Mark... Congrats on the new X... I've read through this entire thread and I believe I can help you with a super link to a how-to regarding installing roof clearance lights:
Just curious....what kind of extended warranty did you get with a rig with 94K miles on it?
It's a lot like an insurance policy.
My wife has the Excursion today, so I don't have the policy to go
read the name of the company.
It was probably (as usual) a mistake because it cost a fair penny,
and the deductibles are not cheap. We're keeping a list of issues
and intend to take it in and get them all fixed at the same time...
hopefully they won't try to ream us for the deductible on each
seperate issue.
They told us the heated seats aren't covered - but they did replace
a window motor on the driver door (it was going down slowly - fine
on the way up, which is unusual).
I'll post a picture when I put the new hybrid emblems on.
The one you see is a Toyota Prius emblem with the blue swoosh
repainted to green using a dark green spraypaint followed by a
fog of yellow to lighten it - it's like an ultra fine stipple effect.
I didn't have green paint in a color I liked, so I faked it, and it
came out better that way. (I popped out the blue insert to paint).
I'll post a closeup later if I get time - I'm fighting a trojan (Spyware
Protect 2009) today... it's a nasty one!
I got some new hybrid logos... click the picture below to go to the photo
gallery and from there you can choose the resolution you want to use to
see them, and use "Next" to see several images of the ones on the rear
door and the front fenders. The lighting was not good (cloudy, and I live
in a rainforst so everything is green - including my "Hybrid" now!)
I also wish I could install an aftermarket remote starter.
I am curious, why can't you put an aftermarket remote starter on the EX? I have one, and it seems to work fine.
I wish that I could just buy an ordinary metal key and get it
cut at a locksmith and be done. I don't like bulky keys in my
pocket.
I think that if you got the remote starter, you could get a key without the chip in it and still start the Ex with it since the chip would already be embedded in the dashboard. Does anyone know if this is true?

Yes. The chipped key is usually installed somewhere close to the ignition switch.
I' not sure about that...I know that my system has a key in some sort of box that allows it to operate. Why not just get a remote starter like you want, get a "skinny" key and get into a warm vehicle in winter and a cool one in summer? Sounds like that would solve everything.
