hi, i'm from up in Canada and i work at an auto parts store that sells wix filters. now wix are telling me that there are two different oil filters for the 6.0l in trucks. the difference is in the filter housing. one has the spiral stem that goes in the middle of the filter when the filter is installed. now the other is longer and has a spring at the top so when the filter is installed it compresses the spring. i have phoned a dealer here and one down in texas and they say there is only one housing and it has the spring on it and there is only one oil filter for the 6.0l. so i am at a delima my truck has the short stem with no spring but wix tells me that it only came in trucks from southern united states. has anyone noticed a difference like this before and is there a change up.
I think that the E series (VANS) use a diff filter housing. all the F-series truck have the spring in the housing on top of the Engine. Do not use the WIX filter. IMO use motorcaft or Fram.
Its not a van its in my own truck 2003 F-250 6.0l. wix, luberfiner and fleetguard all have a service bulletin that comes with each filter they sell for the 6.0l. i went down to my local ford dealer to find out why there are two different stems and they don't show anything about this in there computer. hopefully they will get back to me but i highly doubt it. i was just wondering if any of you have ran into this before?
We have an E450 and the filter housing does have a spiral stem in the middle that the filter slides over, you also have to compress a spring as you push the filter up into the housing. The housing is also shorter than on the F- series but the composite thread on cover is longer to compensate, it also has a threaded plug inside the covers hex so you can drain the filter. AFAIK, at least for Ford applications of the 6 liter Diesel, the filter elements are the same.
