My biggest EFI conversion question....

Fuel system!

I plan to run an MSD high pressure in-line pump, gravity fed, with a 5/16" line to the front rail. Now my question is, can I use a standard in-line carb filter BEFORE the pump as a "pre-filter" and then a Fram 3802a efi filter afterwards? I was told that before the pump, standard carb fuel line and filters would be fine, as well as the line from the regulator for the return. Is this right? I'm still going to use High pressure rubber hose from the return fitting and then into another 5/16" steel line back to the tank. Would this be a good idea? I'm also having a hard time figuring where to run the return line to? A friend told me to plumb it into the filler tube, and another told me to remove the sending unit, which will be hard because my truck gave out with half a tank of gas in it, and drill a hole in the sending unit to stick a 5/16" barb fitting.

Please help as I only have three weeks to finish this whole project.

Mounting the return in the filler tube is common practice for retro-fits. You can take it completely off without any spark danger, and then re-install it after the work is done.

There is a sock on the sending unit already, so I see no need for another pre-pump filter.

As far as hoses, my rule of thumb is use the least amount of rubber hose of any type possible. This is a wear item that will need to be replaced after some time, where the steel line will last forever if it's painted or undercoated.

So it would be ok if I just use the standard Ford Fram filter after the pump? I only plan to use the rubber hose to make it easier to route the steel line to the mustang fuel rail. Not much, just about 3 ft. Same for the return.
Thanks Franklin!

The factory only uses the sock, nothing else before the pump. So if it works for them, I would go with the same setup.
