I am curious what everybody gets for a lunch break. I generally combine the afternoon and morning "coffee" break and take an hour lunch. How 'bout you?
When I take a lunch break its usually less than 15 mins. I use that time instead to leave work early. I like getting off work at 3 pm every day so I do lunch after that.
legally 20 minutes, but I work 3rd shift and no boss on 3rd,so we usually take 30 minutes. Day boss doesn't know the difference as long as his production numbers are close to being met.
My town job (3rd shift) has an 18 minute lunch break. We used to take a half hour, but then the lead decided that he was gonna be a hardcore company man, and so if we're not back to our machines with two minutes to spare, we can expect a write-up. Meanwhile, he hides in the office and naps for two hours at a stretch.
On the farm, I rarely take a lunch break... but I make up for it with a big supper.
I'm self-employed, so my lunch can be anything from non-existant (not common) to 1.5 hours or more (also not common). I usually shoot for about 20-30 minutes. Any longer than that, and I find I have a hard time getting back into the groove. I get the most work done if I eat quick and get right back into it. I probably also take a quick break about once an hour for hydration or dehydration purposes.
OFFICIALLY I can put myself out-of-service for up to 30 minutes for lunch---but this depends on what's going on.....Too busy? Tough luck.
Practically, I don't do this too much. I always cook a good breakfast before I go to work, and I bring a cooler with odds and ends (protein shakes, hardboiled eggs, etc.) and just kind of graze all day.
I rarely have scheduled breaks, other than transit between jobs or when the crews shut down for a quick break when the Garbage truck comes rolling around the job sites, generally in this racket you go till the job is done, then have a break, concrete can be demanding at times.
I am 'alloted' 1 hr for lunch, per contract, but, I usually get between 15 to 45 minutes.
I would prefer to not take a lunch and leave an hour early.
I'm kinda like a boat.
Once it gets up on a 'plane', let it run. If you throttle back and settle down, in the water, it takes more energy and time to get going again.
Let me stay 'up on a plane' and run. . . . . .I'll eat later.
