Has anyone installed a remote start system? If yes what brand and features and how hard was it ? Has it worked good or has there been problems?I was thinking about getting one for my 05 FX4 scab.
On my '05 I had a Crimestopper unit installed aftermarket, and was very pleased with it. In fact, I liked the remote start so much that on my new '08 I had the dealer install a Ford remote start unit. Very beneficial option, especially in cold weather!
Can't go wrong with the Ford system, it's made by Code Alarm. I've had mine for 4.5 years now with no problems at all. I have the middle model that includes keyless entry and remote start all on one keyfob. They have a basic remote start only model that requires you to carry an extra keyfob for remote starting. They also have an upper end model that also includes an alarm w/siren.
I installed mine. It was a code alarm prewired from Travis at www.kcautosound.com .I would not attempt to install if you haven't done any wiring before. But if you can do some wiring it isn't that bad I was more nervous than anything else.
yes, you can install remote start units for manual transmissions..... they have extra relays required, but nothing major.... you just have to be in the habit of leaving your truck in neutral.... i always left min in gear, so it wouldnt be a good idea for me.... but on my automatics, i love them. i have installed about 5 units now, and i have had excellent luck with crimestopper. they are fairly inexpensive if you install them yourself. its not too hard to do, most vendors will supply you with a wiring color code chart to find all the wires you need. just take your time, make good connections (i prefer to solder as many as possible) and you shouldnt have any problems.
